The Anti-Racism Election Protocol (AREP) was originally developed in 2001 by the National Consultative Committee on Racism and Interculturalism (NCCRI) in partnership with all political parties.
Since then AREP has played an important role in ensuring that elections have been conducted in such a way that they do not incite hatred or prejudice on the grounds of:
- ‘race’ (skin colour, nationality, ethnicity),
- religious belief
- membership of the Traveller Community.
The above categories are the ones relevant to racism as defined in the Equal Status Acts (2000-2015) and the Employment Equality Acts (1998-2015).
The Anti-Racism Election Protocol has played an important role since 2001 in ensuring that elections have been conducted in such a way that they do not incite hatred or prejudice on the grounds of ‘race’, colour, nationality or ethnic origin, religious belief and membership of the Traveller Community.
We now have 14 Dublin Fingal candidates signed up to the @INARIreland Anti-racism Election Protocol.
We very much appreciate their commitment to keeping the Fingal election free of racism and anti-migrant hate which we see growing everyday in our communities.
Fingal Communities Against Racism campaign is organised and supported by residents supporting a very wide range of political positions, with a common aim of defeating hate in our communities, and we are pleased that our wide political views are reflected in the range of signatories to the Protocol. We have provided the list of current signatories below.
